Academic Advisor
Stacey Oxlade (top)
&
Director of Student-Athlete Development Stephanie Metz (bottom)

At Jacksonville University, more than 350 student-athletes participate in 18 varsity sports. The University is proud to offer these athletes an academic support system designed to foster responsibility and enthusiasm for learning. It is a system that emphasizes the University's commitment to education, graduation and community involvement.

The Academic Advisor for Student-Athletes serves as the primary point of contact for student-athletes regarding NCAA rules, academic eligibility and progress towards graduation requirements. Every effort is made to ensure student-athletes receive the necessary tools to be successful in the classroom.

Through individual academic counseling, NCAA rules education, academic progress reports, study hall and tutoring, the Academic Advisor for Student-Athletes and Jacksonville University seek to provide each student-athlete with the resources to make his/her college experience as rewarding as possible.

Balancing the rigors of a full academic schedule with the additional demands of Division I Athletics presents a unique challenge. SPLASH - Successful Professional, Life, and Study habits - was designed to help students meet this challenge head-on. The SPLASH program, which encompasses many aspects of the NCAA's CHAMPS/ Life Skills Program, offers student-athletes a variety of presentations, workshops and hands-on activities designed to help them succeed and grow on and off the playing field.

SPLASH is available to every JU student, which allows student-athletes to interact with the entire JU population. In addition, SPLASH offers special topics throughout the academic year geared specifically towards the interests and needs of student-athletes.

SPLASH

The SPLASH program provides a comprehensive set of experiences and services focused on building a student's sense of personal responsibility. The program is a collaboration of Jacksonville University's Advising Center, Counseling Center, Career Services Office, Residential Life and LRNet - JU's Learning Resource Center.

SPLASH focuses on the cultivation of four areas viewed as critical to an individual's growth:

1. Academic Excellence
2. Personal Development
3. Career Development
4. Community Service

By providing programming to support the growth of these four crucial areas, SPLASH helps student-athletes develop lifelong skills which will prove useful in the classroom, on the field and later in life.
