Six former Dolphins inducted into the Hall of Fame

The JU Athletics Hall of Fame has six new members as the Class of 2008 was inducted on Saturday, May 3, in a ceremony at the Kinne Center on the JU campus.

Joining the list of all-time greats in enshrinement was Gisela Anderson, Dee Brown, Jim Kirkland, Rod McIntyre, Chad Oliva and Micah Ross.

Hall of Banquet is SOLD OUT for Saturday

The JU Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet on Saturday is sold out as more than 250 friends, family and guests will be gathered at the Kinne Center on the JU campus.

The former Dolphins being inducted into the Hall of Fame are Gisela Anderson (volleyball), Dee Brown (basketball), Jim Kirkland (basketball), Rod McIntyre (basketball), Chad Oliva (baseball) and Micah Ross (football & basketball).

"It's exciting to see the demand for this event reach the capacity of the venue, with the potential for more," said JU director of athletics Alan Verlander. "It's great to see what Jacksonville University means to these former student-athletes as well as the members of the local community."

The JU Athletics Hall of Fame will induct its first class since 1998 in February as six former Dolphins will join the pantheon of greats that have worn the green and gold.

The honorees are basketball players Jim Kirkland (1958-61), Rod McIntyre (1967-70) and Dee Brown (1987-90), baseball's Chad Oliva (1998-2001) and volleyball's Gisela Anderson (1986-89). The class is rounded out by the first football honoree, Micah Ross (1995-98), who also lettered in basketball as well.

Sara Bendorf named Community First Credit Union Athlete of the Week

Junior outside hitter Sara Bendorf of the JU volleyball team has been named Community First Credit Union "Athlete of the Week" after leading the Dolphins to a 2-1 record last weekend for a three-game homestand at Swisher Gymnasium.
