Jim Mitchell enters his 15th year as a rowing coach and his fifth season at the helm of JU men's and women's rowing.

Both programs enjoyed winning seasons in each of Mitchell's three years with the Dolphins, including 10 state championships, two Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships and three Dad Vail medal winning boats.

Mitchell came to JU after one year as assistant women's rowing coach at West Virginia, where he helped the Mountaineers win the San Diego Crew Classic, the Knecht Cup, the SIRA, and medals at the Big East Championships and Dad Vails. While at WVU, Mitchell was named the Mid-Atlantic Regional Assistant Coach of the Year and was one of five finalists for National Assistant Coach of the Year. Prior to WVU, Mitchell was the head men's coach at Miami from 1998-2002 and the head rowing coach for the Atlanta Junior Rowing Association from 1994-1998.

Mitchell rowed at Tennessee-Chattanooga, where earned the Senior Rower Award, and was part of the Top 20 wrestling squad for the Mocs. He received his bachelor's degree in business management from Tennessee-Chattanooga in 1992 and went on to earn his masters in special education from Georgia State in 2001.
