Women's rowing competes against Miami

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU women's rowing team delivered a strong performance on Saturday at the Negaard Rowing Center on the St. John's River.

Five Dolphin boats took to the water as the Varsity 8, Freshman 8 and three Varsity 4 boats competed against the Hurricanes.

"It was a great day of racing," said JU head women's coach Anna Talucci. "All the boats performed well with some tough racing against Miami."

The Varsity 8 with coxswain Jill Sarno, Candace Barber, Adelina Anderson, Stephanie Bechtold, Jessica Tuten, Julia Fairchild, Danielle Fournier, Jennifer Barker, and Keely Wells started things off at 8 a.m. and finished third place with a time of 06:05.0.

The Freshman 8 consisting of coxswain Claire Futo, Candace Barber, Danielle Fournier, Jill Carmody, Karylina Greer, Morgan McTiernan, Samantha Newell, Brittany Cahan and Elise Perna finished second to the Hurricanes by only three seconds, finishing with a time of 06:24.7

In the final event, three Varsity 4 boats competed against three Varsity 4 boats from the Hurricanes. The Dolphins "A" boat finished third with a time of 06:27.6, with the Dolphins "C" boat recording a fourth-place finish and a time of 06:28.5. The Dolphins "B" boat finished sixth with a time of 06:54.2. The Varsity 4 boats consisted of coxswain Amanda Soukup, Kelly Burke, Kate Gout, Jill Carmody and Keely Wells; coxswain Jill Sarno, Stephanie Bechtold, Adelina Anderson, Jennifer Barker and Jessica Tuten and coxswain Claire Futo, Julia Fairchild, Karylina Greer, Candace Barber and Danielle Fournier.

Both Dolphins' programs will take to the water again at the Dad Vail Regatta on May 9-10 in Philadelphia.
