Bambi Carson begins her fifth year as assistant track and field coach at JU. Carson focues on coaching the throwing events as well as assisting with day-to-day administration and recruiting. In just four seasons, Carson has helped coached six A-Sun Champions and seven all-conference performers. In 2006, she helped Shunisha McClinton take home "Most Outstaning Field Performer" at the A-Sun Indoor Track Championship. McClinton's toss of 51' 6.25" won the weight throw competiton. She placed second in shot put with a mark of 42' 1.25". McClinton would later dominate the field events at the A-Sun Outdoor Championship, winning the shot put with a throw of 43'8.5". She also took second in the discus with a throw of 126'4" and fourth in the hammer throw with a school-record toss of 129'11". Before joining the Dolphins, she spent a season as an assistant track and field coach at Union High School in Tulsa, Okla. Carson was a two-time All America selection and Big 12 champion at Oklahoma. In 2001, Carson earned All-America honors in both the discus and indoor shot, while also placing 13th in the outdoor shot at the NCAA Track & Field Championship (53'3"). She was also a two-time Big 12 champion in the discus (2000 & 2001) during her four-year career and formerly held the Oklahoma and Big 12 meet record in the discus. Following her collegiate career, Carson competed at the 2001 USA Track & Field Nationals, placing 10th in the discus. Her lifetime-best throw in the discus is 197'1". The Marlow, Okla., native captured state titles in the discus during her senior and sophomore seasons at Marlow High, and added another in the shot put as a senior. |
