JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The JU women's indoor track & field team hold a 16-point lead over their next closest competitor after day one of the 2008 Atlantic Sun Indoor Track and Field Championships in Johnson City, Tenn.

Junior jumpers Natasha Harvey and Shaquania Lundy, fresh off of competing in the AT&T USA Track Indoor Championships, delivered the second and third best long jump marks in the nation this year, as they took first and second in the event. Harvey's jump of 21-05"25 is tied for her career personal-best and breaks the school's indoor record. Lundy's jump of 21-04"75 is the longest of her career.

"We accomplished what we set out to do today," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "It wasn't perfect, but we put ourselves in a good position and hope our success today can translate into another good performance tomorrow."

Sophomore thrower Hillary Crook set a meet record as she took first-place in the shot put with a mark of 44-09.75.

Junior Simone Clark and sophomore Tiffany Bromfield finished second and fourth in the pentathlon respectively, while freshman jumper Alison Salas scored a point after she leapt 5-02.25 to take sixth in the high jump.

The distance medley team consisting of freshman Anastasia Fokina, freshman Unique Singleton, sophomore Alyssa Deal and sophomore Alison Ritter took second-place with a time of 12:21.98.

Sophomore Elsabeth Goshu scored a point with a sixth-place finish in the 3000-meters, running a time of 10:34.81 Senior Danielle Coyle finished 12th with a time of 11:21.33.

Freshman Laura Phillips delivered a scoring performance in the shot put, taking fifth with a mark of 38-04.25.

Harvey and Lundy both qualified for the finals of the 60-meter dash, while Harvey, Clark, freshman J'Zotta Rolle and Bromfield qualified for the 60-meter hurdles finals.

The Dolphins will attempt to win their third consecutive title tomorrow in the final day of the A-Sun Championships in Johnson City, Tenn. Live results can be found at http://cfpitiming.com/resultsmj/
