Women's outdoor track & field does well at Seminole Invitational

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The JU women's outdoor track & field team had a strong showing at the Seminole Invitational over the weekend in Tallahassee, Fla.

Freshman Laura Phillips took second in the discus and shot put, with marks of 38.77m and 12.95m, respectively. She also finished fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 38.92m.

"Our throws group and Ali Ritter showed continued improvement," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "We'll need the sprints and jumps group to follow suit in the next few weeks."

Sophomore Alison Ritter finished third in the 800-meters with a time of 2:19.89 and fourth in the 1500-meters with a time of 4:42.55.

Two Dolphins finished in the top 10 in the 400-meters, with junior Janel Grooms taking sixth and freshman Stephanie Brown placing 10th after recording finishes of 57.12 and 58.52, respectively. Freshman Allison Salas finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.54.

Sophomore Tiffany Bromfield's time of 15.03 earned her a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles.

Brown, Grooms and Bromfield all competed in the 200-meter dash, with Brown leading the way with a 10th place finish after running a race of 26.13. A time of 26.82 earned Grooms a 14th place finish with Bromfield right behind her in 15th after she ran a time of 27.29.

Sophomore Tiffanie Saxton finished 16th in the 800-meters with a time of 2:28.15.

In the 3,000-meter race, sophomore Elsabeth Goshu finished sixth with a time of 10:33.76, while senior Danielle Coyle placed 12th after coming in at 11:34.51. Assistant coach Jolene Williams won the event.

The Dolphins' season continues on Saturday in the LSU Alumni Gold in Baton Rouge, La.
