Women's Outdoor Track & Field to compete at LSU Alumni Gold

April 17, 2008

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU women's outdoor track & field team will travel to Baton Rouge, La. on Friday, competing in the LSU Alumni Gold.

The Dolphins were ranked the No. 75 team in the nation in the recent U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll on April 17.

"The LSU Alumni Gold has always been a good meet for us," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "It will have deep fields of NCAA National Qualifiers and post-collegiate World Class level talent. For athletes like Natasha Harvey, Shaquania Lundy and Janel Grooms, this will be a good measuring stick for this point in the season. For the freshmen, this will be great exposure to the highest level of athleticism. It will be a perfect environment for excellent performances."

Last week, The JU women's outdoor track & field team had a strong showing at the Seminole Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla.

Freshman Laura Phillips was named one of the conference's top performers after finishing second in the discus and shot put, with marks of 38.77m and 12.95m, respectively. She also finished fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 38.92m.
