Women's outdoor track & field team delivers big performances at LSU Alumni Gold

April 20, 2008

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU women's outdoor track & field team recorded another strong performance on Saturday at the LSU Alumni Gold in Baton Rouge, La.

Junior Natasha Harvey jumped 21-2.00 in the long jump and her 100-meter hurdle time of 13.72 earned her a 10th-place finish and her second regional qualifying mark of the day.

"I was proud of our girls today," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "We met four regional qualifying marks and broke two records and I hope we can continue this momentum into the A-Sun championships in four weeks time."

Junior Janel Grooms broke her own school record in the 800-meters with a time of 2:08.43, which also was a regional qualifying mark.

Junior Shaquania Lundy broke her own school record and set a regional qualifying mark in the process with her triple jump of 41-05.00.

Junior Simone Clark ran a career-best 14.18 in the 100-meter hurdles, earning her a 14th-place finish, while freshman J'Zotta Rolle finished 18th with a time of 14.72.

Freshmen Unique Singleton and Danielle Davenport finished 23rd and 24th in the 400-meters with times of 57.01 and 57.10, respectively. Freshman Stephanie Brown took 33rd after running a 58.35.

Rolle and Clark competed in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing 9th and 14th with times of 1:02.16 and 1:04.14, respectively.

The Dolphins 4x400 team of Harvey, Rolle, Singleton and Brown finished ninth with a time of 3:47.29.

It would have been impossible to tell that the Dolphins were competing in the 200-meters for the first time all season, as all five JU competitors delivered solid performances. Harvey led the way with a 22nd-place finish and a time of 24.54. Lundy was 26th after running 24.76. Davenport and Singleton finished back-to-back again, after their times of 24.88 and 25.00 earned them 32nd and 33rd-place finishes, respectively. Brown finished 43rd with a time of 25.90.

The Dolphins will be back in action on May 10th at the UCF Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
