Bo McDougal is entering his 24th year with Jacksonville University and his first as the director of sports medicine. He is the longest serving member of the athletic staff. McDougal oversees a full-time staff of five people and 20 student trainers from the University of North Florida. McDougal is responsible for the daily care, as well as the prevention and rehabilitation of the student-athlete's injuries for the school's 18 Division I teams. McDougal also teaches physical education classes for Jacksonville University. While at JU, McDougal has assisted with some special events, including NCAA men's basketball regionals in Orlando (2004), Nashville (2005), and Jacksonville (2006) as well as many U.S.-based touring and national teams as they trained in Jacksonville, including the U.S. Synchronized Swimming team as they prepared for the Pan American Games in 1991. McDougal also assisted with the 1984 U.S. Olympics Gymnastics Trials and the U.S. Gymnastics Federation McDonalds National Championships in 1985. He has also worked with the Athletes in Action on overseas trips to Europe (Poland & Greece) in 1990 and the former Soviet Union in 1994. Before coming to JU, McDougal served as a graduate assistant at both Arizona State and Murray State, his alma mater. He earned his bachelor's degree in health and physical education from Murray State in 1981 before completing his master's degree in health, physical education, recreation and dance in 1988. A native of Murray, Ky., McDougal was a four-year letterman in football and baseball for Murray High School. He received the Ty Holland Scholarship after being named the school's outstanding student/athlete. He is a licensed trainer in Florida and Kentucky and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association, Southeastern Athletic Trainers' Association, Athletic Trainers' Association of Florida and Northeastern Florida Athletic Trainers' Association. McDougal and his wife Lois have one child, Milya. McDougal has two stepsons, Jeremy and Brian, and a grandson, Kyle. |
