Jessica Peters is entering her second year with the Jacksonville University Sports Medicine department. While at JU, she will oversee all aspects of healthcare for the student-athletes involved with junior varsity football and men's & women's golf. She was promoted to assistant athletic trainer in July 2007 after serving as an athletic trainer intern with the Dolphins in 2006. During her first year with the department she handled the every day duties for women's soccer, men's & women's rowing and men's & women's golf. Prior to her year as an intern with JU, she was a graduate assistant with the University of North Florida (2005-06) working with women's soccer and softball. As an undergraduate, she completed clinical assignments with women's volleyball, women's basketball, cross country, track & field and football (2001-2005). She also completed assignments with the Commerce High School football program, Commerce Hospital, and various allied health care facilities. A native of Dallas, Texas, Peters is a Licensed Athletic Trainer by the State of Florida Department of Health, a Certified Athletic Trainer by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification, Inc., and a Certified Performance Enhancement Specialist by the National Academy of Sports Medicine. She is also a member of NATA, Southeast Athletic Trainers' Association, and the Athletic Trainers' Association of Florida. She is an Approved Clinical Instructor by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Education Council and works with undergraduate athletic training students from North Florida. Peters earned her bachelor's of science degree in the athletic training & health from the department of Health and Human Performance at Texas A&M University - Commerce in 2005. She went on to earn her master's of science in performance enhancement and injury prevention from the Department of Exercise Science and Health Promotion at California University of Pennsylvania in 2007. She made the move to Florida to be closer to her sister and currently resides in Jacksonville. |
