Blas Ruelas is entering his second year as Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Jacksonville University Sports Medicine department. While at JU, he oversees all aspects of healthcare for the student-athletes involved with baseball and men's soccer. He joined the JU sports medicine staff in August 2006 after serving two years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Louisiana Tech University. While at Louisiana Tech, he worked with the football, baseball and women's tennis programs. Prior to Louisiana Tech, he was an intern athletic trainer at Kalamazoo Central High School during the 2004 season. Ruelas began his career as a student athletic trainer for his alma mater, Western Michigan University, from 1999-2004. A native of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Ruelas is a Licensed Athletic Trainer by the State of Florida Department of Health, Certified Athletic Trainer by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification, Inc. and is a member of NATA, Southeast Athletic Trainers' Association and the Athletic Trainers' Association of Florida. He is an Approved Clinical Instructor by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Education Council. Ruelas earned his bachelor's degree in exercise science with an emphasis in athletic training at Western Michigan in 2004 before going on to earn his master's in health and exercise science at Louisiana Tech in 2006. He currently resides in Jacksonville. |
