Jeff McCrone, who has spent his entire life around the game, enters his first season on the JU coaching staff. McCrone will be responsible for coaching tight ends. The son of JU defensive coordinator Ron McCrone, Jeff brings a wide array of experiences to the program. "Jeff has a tremendous amount of knowledge about the game and he relates well to the players," head coach Kerwin Bell said. "He is a great addition to our staff." A native of Jacksonville, McCrone was an all-state quarterback during his senior season at Orange Park High School. In college, he rewrote the record books at Tennessee-Martin, leading the Ohio Valley Conference in passing yards and touchdowns, as well as setting the record for completions in a game. After graduating UT-Martin with his bachelor's degree in criminal justice, McCrone followed in his father back to Jacksonville as the quarterback for the Jacksonville Tomcats in AFL2. McCrone continued to rack up numbers in the pros, leading the league in quarterback rating and finishing third in the league in passing and total offense. Following an injury in 2001, McCrone made the leap to the coaching staff - starting as offensive coordinator for the Tomcats under his father. Following his stint with the Tomcats, McCrone was named offensive coordinator at Orange Park High School, where he worked for three years. The last three years he has been an assistant coach at Fletcher High School in nearby Neptune Beach, Fla. McCrone and his family reside in Jacksonville. |
