  Andy McLeod

Andy McLeod

Player Profile

Hometown:
Elkhorn, Neb.

Position:
Recruiting Coordinator/Offensive Line

Experience:
5th Season

Alma Mater:
Western Kentucky, 1996

Andy McLeod begins his fifth season at Jacksonville University as the offensive line coach and his first as the recruiting coordinator - which produced one of the most talented classes of signees in JU history.

Since coming to JU, he has coached the school's two all-time rushing leaders and developed the offensive lines that paved the way for them.

As the offensive coordinator the past four seasons, McLeod directed the Dolphins offense to several school records. In 2006, running back Jerry Brant set the school record for rushing yards and became just the third player in school history to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season.

He was crucial in the development of quarterback Chris Horton - who threw 18 touchdown passes in his first full season as a the starter.

In 2005, despite the lack of a starting quarterback heading into the season, the Dolphins finished 18th in the nation in rushing (212.5/game) and 33rd in scoring offense (29.5/game). The Dolphins also set the program record for total offense (578 yards), the second highest running attack (371 yards) against North Greenville and tallied the second highest total offensive output with 585 yards against Butler.

McLeod re-tooled the JU offense in 2004 and the Dolphins responded by amassing 3,216 yards, which ranked fourth in the PFL. JU rushed for 1,808 yards and 13 touchdowns behind the improved play of all-PFL tackle Pat Rich and a core of up-and-coming linemen.

In 2003, JU nearly set program records for total offense (4,463 yards), rushing yards (2,103) and passing yards (2,360) as McLeod installed a no-huddle attack. Mike Sturgill threw for a school-record 2,060 yards and 20 touchdowns, while the Dolphins suffered just 14 sacks in 11 games, a reduction of 50 percent from the previous season.

McLeod came to JU after four seasons at Gannon (Pa.) University, a year at St. Joseph's (Ind.) College and at his alma mater Western Kentucky.

McLeod was a four-year letterwinner at Western Kentucky from 1993-96, racking up 22 wins during his career. The Elkhorn, Neb., native and his wife, Keely, are expecting their first child this fall.
