Rudell Small named Community First Athlete of the Week

Sept. 24, 2007

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Freshman running back Rudell Small got his first collegiate start on Saturday against UNC-Pembroke and made the most of it, scoring five touchdowns in a 55-10 win over UNC-Pembroke to be named the Community First "Athlete of the Week."

Small became the first Dolphin to rush for more than 100 yards this season with 19 carries for 112 yards. He had scoring runs of 3, 2, 27, 4 and 8 - tying the school record set by Greg Portee in 1998 with five rushing scores.

The most impressive of the runs was the 27-yard touchdown where it looked like he was stopped, but instead broke at least four tackles and easily got into the end zone.

The honor is the second of the week for Small as he was named Pioneer Football League Offensive "Player of the Week" on Sunday.

The freshman leads the Dolphins in rushing yardage with 147 yards on 26 carries.
