JU student-athletes to host Athletic Day at local elementary school

Dec. 10, 2007

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A group of JU student-athletes, led by senior football players James Mills and Quintan Salery, are hosting an Athletic Day at Justina Road Elementary School on Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"We are looking to spring the kids into the Christmas break with an everlasting memory during the holidays," said Mills. "We have been fortunate to reach out to several sponsors in the community that have helped us lead this effort."

The event is dedicated to impacting the lives of young kids with positive role models of student-athletes. The event takes place right before the Duval County Public School System closes for Christmas break.

"We believe that giving these kids a fun filled day will have a positive impact on at least 1 of the 300 or more kids," Salery said. "Any time you can have a positive impact on one child, it is a rewarding experience."

The Athletic Field Day is an event planning task that the two young men decided to conquer as their senior project. Event planning relates to the communication field of Public Relations. The two worked together as if they were Siamese twins, generating sponsorships from places such as Bank of America, Promo Depot and Pita Express.
