Jim Taketa resigns as head men's and women's golf coach

Jim Taketa has resigned as head men's and women's golf coach at Jacksonville University on Tuesday to spend more time with his family business interests.

In his four years as head coach, Taketa oversaw the men's program's first NCAA Regional appearance and Atlantic Sun Conference title in 2006. In 2005, Duncan Stewart represented JU as an individual at the NCAA East Regional and in 2007, both Stewart and All-America Russell Knox competed at the NCAA East Regional.

Men's golf finishes 10th at A-Sun Championship

Battling a tough layout, the JU men's golf team wrapped up its 2007-08 season by taking 10th at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship.

Freshman Tim Adams had the low round of the day for the Dolphins, carding a two-over par 73 as the Dolphins shot a 16-over par 300.

"The guys never quit this week and just grinded throughout the tournament," said JU head coach Jim Taketa. "While we didn't perform as well as we hoped, it was a great learning experience for us, especially for our young guys returning next year."

Men's golf improves, remains in 10th entering final round

Perfect conditions led to improved scoring in the second round of the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship, with the JU men's golf team improving by nine shots on Tuesday.

The Dolphins posted a round of 307, with Matt Kleinrock, Christian Martin and Stephen Healy each carding a five-over par 76. JU was unable to make up any ground in the standings, sitting in 10th place heading into the final round.

Martin's round moved him to 11-over par after 36 holes, the team leader entering the final round at the par-71 Chateau Elan Golf Club.

Men's golf in tenth at the A-Sun Championship

The first round of the 2008 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship is one that the JU men's golf team will forget.

The Dolphins posted a score of 316 (32-over par) and are in tenth place among the 10 teams in the championship on the par-71 Chateau Elan Golf Club.

Christian Martin had the best finish for the Dolphins, carding a six-over par 77.

Men's golf set to tee it up in conference championship

At the end of a roller-coast season, the JU men's golf team looks to take its game to an all-new level at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship.

Played at the par-72 Chateau Elan Golf Club, the Dolphins are seeking their second conference title in the past three years.

This is JU's second time around the course, having played in the Larry Nelson Invitational hosted by Kennesaw State a month ago. The Owls won the team event and will be looking to claim their first A-Sun title on their home course.

The JU Athletic Association is holding a drawing that would fulfill many golfers' dreams. All the proceeds from the drawing will go to support JU athletics and its student-athletes.

Men's golf beats Charleston Southern by 10 shots in dual match

The JU men's golf team went through its final preparation for next week's Atlantic Sun Conference championship on Sunday, defeating Charleston Southern by 10 shots in a head-to-head match at Hidden Hills Country Club.

Junior Christian Martin led the Dolphins with rounds of 69 and 71 to finish at four-under par and finish with the lowest score in the match.

"Everyone played well today," Martin said. "I was able to give myself a lot of birdies chances and made a lot of putts today."

In a day tailor made for low scores, the JU men's golf team posted its best round of the season, a 3-under par 285, to take second place at the North-South Intercollegiate on the par-72 Jacksonville Beach Golf Club.

Senior Matt Kleinrock carded a career-best six-under par 66 to finish in second place individually at three-under par, 141.

Florida Gulf Coast carded an 11-under par, 277, to finish the 36-hole event at 568 - eight-under par for the tournament to beat the other 10 teams. JU's 36-hole total of 583 was seven-over par for the event, the best total for the Dolphins this season.

Men's golf team in second at the North-South Intercollegiate

Freshman Stephen Healy carded a one-over par 73 in the first round of the North-South Intercollegiate, leading the JU men's golf team to second place after 18 holes.

Healy's round came as he battled the windy conditions on the par-72 Jacksonville Beach Golf Club, posting a one-under par 35 on the front nine. His back nine was two-over par and saw him battle back after losing his drive on the 10th hole.

JU is seven shots out of the lead, held by Florida Gulf Coast after posting a 291 on Monday to lead the 10-team event.

Men's golf ties for seventh at Charleston Southern

The JU men's golf team dropped into a tie for seventh after shooting a 319 in the final round amid extremely difficult conditions in the final round of the CSU Spring Kick Off Invitational.

Stephen Healy was one of two Dolphins who were able to break 80 in the final round, posting a four-over par 75 to finish in 31st.

Memphis held on to beat Kennesaw State by one as the two teams shot 304 in the final round in claiming the 10-team event. Memphis' Ian Rochester posted a one-over par 72 to win the individual title 12 shots at nine-under par, 204.

Men's golf in sixth at the CSU Spring Kick Off

Justin Jones carded a one-over par 72 in the morning and a one-under par 70 in the afternoon to tie for fourth and lead the JU men's golf team to a sixth place finish after the first day of the Charleston Southern Spring Kick Off Tournament.

Jones's one-under par round in the afternoon on the par-71 Cooshaw Creek Country Club set a new career best and put him in the top five in the individual competition.

The JU men's golf team opened its spring season on Saturday, falling to No. 44 Northwestern by two shots in an 18-hole match Saturday afternoon at Pablo Creek.

The Wildcats won the match with a 287-289 advantage, with David Lipsky firing a four-under par 68 to lead NU to the win.

The Dolphins got a round of season-best two-under par 70 from Justin Jones on the par-72 Pablo Creek Country Club, with each team starting six golfers and counting the low four for the team score.

Men's golf to face Northwestern in 18-hole match

The JU men's golf team opens its spring season on Saturday as they face No. 44 Northwestern in an 18-hole match at Pablo Creek Country Club.

The Dolphins enter the spring season looking to improve off a roller coaster fall season and begin with this tough one-day match.

"This is great opportunity for our young guys to get some experience in a one-day setting that will prepare them for tournament play later this summer," said JU head coach Jim Taketa. "Northwestern is a very good team and will give us a good gauge of where we are and where we're going."
