Men's soccer shuts out Lipscomb, 4-0

Oct. 14, 2006

Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University men's soccer team broke a three-match losing streak by using three first-half goals to down Lipscomb, 4-0, on Saturday night in Atlantic Sun Conference action at the Ashley Sports Complex.

Sophomore Ramak Niakan safi, junior Anton Axelsson and sophomore Philipp Meyner each added goals for the Dolphins (4-9-1, 2-3 A-Sun) in the first half, while Bojan Milicevic scored in the second half to secure the win. Senior Chad Comroe made three saves to earn his second shutout of the season.

"Overall, it was a great team effort because we have been looking for some guys to step up and we got that tonight," said JU head coach Mike Johnson. They were relentless all 90 minutes to get the well-deserved victory. We know that our back against the wall for the rest of the season and the guys did a great job responding."

Niakan safi gave the Dolphins an early lead by scoring on a header off a corner by Milicevic just four minutes into the first half.

Axelsson extended the Dolphins advantage at the 20-minute mark after scoring in the top of the net from 15 yards out.

The Dolphins gained a 3-0 advantage before half time when Meyner scored from 30 yards out from the left side of the field.

In the second half, Milicevic recorded his second goal of the season at 67:22 on assists from Brian Cocciolo and Sebastian Lindholm to put the game out of reach.

The Bisions (5-7-2, 1-3-1 A-Sun) managed 12 shots in the match, including eight in the second half, but couldn't sneak a goal pass the Dolphins' defense

The Dolphins are back in action at the Ashley Sports Complex as they take on A-Sun rival Mercer on Friday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m.
