In his eight years at Piedmont College, Shane Wood built a nationally respected program at the Division III level.

Now, Wood gets his first opportunity on the big stage of Division I as he was named head men's and women's tennis coach by JU director of athletics Alan Verlander.

"Shane has a vast amount of experience and knows how to a build a program," Verlander said. "He has a passion for tennis and leadership which helped him build Piedmont into a national program. We are excited about his arrival to our program and know that great things lie ahead for this program."

In his eight years at Piedmont, Wood rolled up a 150-131 record as re-established a program that had been dormant for three years prior to his arrival.

"I am really excited about the opportunity to come to JU and build this program," Wood said. "The men's and women's tennis programs here have great tradition. I want build and continue that tradition of playing at a high level and winning championships."

During his time at Piedmont, he was named Great South Athletic Conference men's "Coach of the Year" six straight years from 2002-2007 and was named women's "Coach of the Year" in 2004 and 2006.

He rattled off seven straight GSAC titles on the men's side from 2001-2007 and won back-to-back titles on the women's side in 2004 and 2005.

The 2004 season saw his men's team finish ranked 23rd in the Division III, earning a berth to the NCAA Tournament. He also saw one of his players make the NCAA men's singles championship in 2004 and 2005 while sending a doubles team to the national tournament in 2005.

A member of the United States Tennis Association since 1999, he is a certified professional with the United States Professional Tennis Association, receiving P-2 certification in 2005.

Wood and his wife Jennifer have three children, Payton (4), Abby (3), and Graham (1).
