Men's tennis faces Winthrop on Wednesday
March 18, 2008 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After snapping a three-match losing streak, the JU men's tennis team returns to the court on Wednesday to face Winthrop. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at the Keith Watson Family Tennis Complex. JU enters its non-conference match having snapped a three-match losing streak with a 4-3 win at Gardner-Webb on Sunday. The Dolphins (4-7, 3-2 A-Sun) won the doubles point in thrilling fashion to cap the match after the two teams had split the six singles matches. Jordi Ballester and Fransico Riveroll sealed the match with a 9-8 win in the No. 1 doubles match, after the two teams split the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches. "This was a really big win for our guys," said JU head coach Shane Wood. "I'm really proud of the way they fought throughout the match to get this win. Hopefully this will be the confidence booster that we need as we head down the stretch." In singles action, Victor Vaz (No. 2), Riveroll (No. 3) and Marcos Oliveira (No. 4) won their singles matches to force the doubles point to be played. In doubles, Vaz teamed up with Albero Lopez for an 8-6 win in the No. 2 match to setup Riveroll and Ballester's heroics. JU 4, Gardner-Webb 3
