Men's tennis defeats Mercer, 5-2
April 7, 2008 MACON, Ga. - The JU men's tennis team defeated Atlantic Sun rival Mercer, 5-2, on Sunday in Macon, Ga. Jordi Ballester won the No. 1 matchup, 6-3, 6-4, over Tobias Ohrstrom. The Dolphins No. 2 and 3 players also claimed victories, as Victor Vaz defeated Ivan Besancon in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 and Francisco Riveroll defeated Justin Wimpee, 6-1,6-2, respectively. The No. 4 and 5 matches didn't go as well for the Dolphins, as Marcos Oliveira was forced to retire in the third set to Fernando Armendaris and Mercer's Chapman Mitchell defeated Alberto Lopez, 6-3, 6-2. The Dolphins No. 6 Vinicius Craveiro defeated Matthew Davis in three sets, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. The Dolphins claimed the doubles point as the No. 1 pair of Ballester and Riveroll defeated Ohrstrom and Besancon, 8-6 and the No. 2 team of Vaz and Lopez defeated Mitchell and Davis, 9-8. The Bears team of Ingram and Wimpee defeated the Dolphins No. 3 pairing of Craveiro and Oliveria, 8-3. The Dolphins will be back in action on Wednesday against crosstown rival North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla. |
