Men's tennis defeats Bethune-Cookman, 5-2

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU men's tennis team ended its regular season on a high note with a 5-2 win over Bethune-Cookman on Monday afternoon at the Keith Watson Family Tennis Complex. JU (8-12) got the doubles point and four wins in singles play, all in straight sets. "We played well today and it was a good confidence booster for us heading into the tournament," said JU head coach Shane Wood. "We're going to fine tune some things over the next few days to have us ready to play our best tennis of the year at the conference tournament." The Dolphins opened the match by taking two of three doubles matches. Jordi Ballester and Francisco Riveroll teamed up for an 8-4 win in the No. 1 match while Vinny Craveiro and Marcos Oliveira won the No. 3 match 8-6. In singles play, Jacksonville got dominating performances in the Nos. 1,2,3 and 4 matches. Ballester won 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 1 position, with Victor Vaz winning his second straight match - a 6-2, 6-2 decision. Riveroll got the point at the No. 3 position with a 6-3, 6-4 win while Oliveira won the No. 4 match, 6-2, 6-1. The Dolphins will return to the court on Friday as the face Gardner-Webb in the first round of the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship. First serve is set for 4:30 p.m. |
