Position:
Assistant Coach

Experience:
Fourth Year

Alma Mater:
Edinboro University, 1994

With 12 years of collegiate coaching experience at all levels of college basketball, Andrea Williams begins her fourth season as a member of the Dolphins' staff and has been instrumental in building JU into an A-Sun power.

Bringing versatility and variety to the staff, Williams is an added asset to Dolphin recruiting while also working with the JU guards.

Last season, Williams continued to have a hand in the development of the sophomore guard trio of Virginia Gregoire, DaVina Hamilton and Regina Omoite. The group served as a catalyst for JU's up-tempo style of play as the Dolphins rewrote the program record book while finishing with the sixth best turnaround in the nation.

Gregoire, who earned first team all-conference honors, ranked third in the conference with 14.6 points per contest while also being named to the all-tournament team as JU reached the second round of the A-Sun Championship. She also led the squad with 3.6 assists and 52 three-pointers, ranked second with 5.3 rebounds per contest and was third with 1.8 steals per game.

Omoite also developed into a three-point threat by finishing second on the squad with 51 treys en route to ranking third on the squad with 9.3 points per game. Hamilton also enjoyed a career year by averaging 8.4 points per game, ranking second on the squad with 1.9 steals per game and ranking third with 3.4 assists per contest.

In the 2005-06 season, the Dolphins' finished with a previous program record of 62.6 points per game and reached the conference postseason tournament for the first time since 2002. Sheena Carpenter also earned second team all-conference honors and became only the third Dolphin to surpass the 1,000 career point plateau.

In her first season with the program, Williams was instrumental in the development of Carpenter as one of the A-Sun's top players. Carpenter, who earned preseason all-conference honors, finished with career highs in every offensive category. Guards Nakina Alford and Rebecca Montz also finished the season ranked in the top five in three-pointers per contest.

Prior to JU, Williams served as an assistant coach with the U.S. Naval Academy from 2002-04 and helped lead the Midshipmen to 29 wins in two years as they qualified for the Patriot League Tournament in both campaigns. Navy went 16-12 in 2002-03, including wins over Fresno State (WNIT participant) and Valparaiso (NCAA Tournament team), while junior guard Courtney Davidson earned First-Team All-Patriot League honors. In 2003-04, Navy Davidson earned first team All-Patriot League honors for the second time and freshman Kate Hobbs earned All-Rookie Team honors as the Midshipmen advanced to the Patriot Tournament for the second consecutive season.

Prior to joining the Navy staff in August of 2002, Williams spent three years as an assistant coach at the University of Tampa. During her time with the program, the Spartans posted three winning seasons, a 55-31 overall record, led the NCAA in team steals and advanced to the 2000 NCAA Division II Tournament.

Individually, Trysta Morenz earned first team all-Sunshine State Conference and NCAA All-South Region Team honors after ranking second in the nation in steals, while Yushunda Morse was named Sunshine State Conference "Rookie of the Year." As the lone full-time coach with the team, Williams oversaw the day-to-day operations of the program.

Before making her way to Tampa, Williams served as the head coach for basketball at Waynesburg (Pa.) College from 1997-99. During that time, she recruited NCAA leader Christina Nicol who ranked third in the nation in blocked shots and 25th in scoring en route to Presidents' Athletic Conference accolades. Williams also served as the head coach for cross country and softball was a member of the ECAC South Selection Committee for NCAA Division III.

Williams began her collegiate coaching career at Division II Edinboro University as an assistant in 1995-96. The Fighting Scots won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight during her second and final season with the program. During that year, she coached the NCAA's rebounding leader (Heather Gates) and recruited the nation's eventual No. 2 scorer (Jessica Rowe).

A native of Fort Wayne, Ind., Williams played two seasons of basketball at Vincennes (Ind.) University, followed by two seasons of basketball and one season of softball at Edinboro (Pa.) University. She helped lead Edinboro to the NCAA Division II Tournament as a junior and senior and captained the squad in her final season (1993-94).

Williams earned her bachelor's degree in physical education and health fitness at Edinboro in 1994 and is currently working towards her master's in education. She was also a member of the first graduation class at the Women's Coaches Academy in Bryn Mawr, Pa., in 2003 and is currently a member of the Women's Basketball Coaches and Black Coaches Association.

In the summer of 2006, she was one of 11 female college coaches accepted into the Acheiving Coaching Excellence Program by the BCA.
