Ashley Williams named Community First Credit Union Athlete of the Week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior forward Ashley Williams of the JU women's basketball team has been named Community First Credit Union "Athlete of the Week" after earning all-tournament honors at the Lady Pirate Invitational in Greenville, N.C. over the weekend.

Williams, who was named to the all-tournament team, also moved into second place on the JU all-time scoring list (1,097) and set the program record for career steals (116).

Against UMass, she tallied a game-high 28 points and 10 rebounds to notch her first double-double of the year. She shot 10-of-15 from the floor while also hitting 8-of-10 free throws to lead the squad to a 72-68 win over the Minutewomen. Against Winthrop, she tallied a game-high 18 points to go with five rebounds, five steals and three blocks while shooting 9-of-13 from the floor.

For the week, she averaged 23 points, 7.5 rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists while shooting .679 (19-28) from the floor.

The Dolphins will play their first contest in the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena as JU hosts Florida on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The contest can be seen live on www.judolphins.com as part of ASun.TV.
