Women's Golf places eighth at UC Spring Invitational

Junior Therese Karlsson fired a 75 in her final round to secure a tie for ninth place to lead the JU women's golf team to an eighth place finish at the UC Women's Spring Invitational at the Plantation Golf Course in Crystal River, Fla.

Karlsson shot rounds of 76 and 78 in the first two rounds before completing her weekend with a 75 to lead the Dolphins. Freshman Danielle Gibb bounced back from an opening round of 83 with rounds of 77 in the final two round s to just miss the top 20 by two strokes with a total of 237.

"It was good to see everyone finish with their best score in the final round," said JU assistant coach Pamela Shelley. "Now we have to get ourselves ready to end the year on a strong note with the conference tournament next week."

The Dolphins finished eight overall with a total of 954, which placed ahead of Wichita State (960), UAB (962), Rutgers (1030) and Eckerd (1039). Florida Atlantic won the team title with a score of 910 while Stetson (919) and Florida International rounded out the top three (920).

Individually, Danielle Jackson of Stetson took the title with rounds of 74, 75 and 69 for a total of 218. Bambee Dela Paz of Cincinnati (75, 70, 76 - 221) and Heather Hagerman of Florida Gulf Coast (76, 74, 73 - 223) rounded out the top three finishers.

Senior Heather Fudge tied for 31st (81, 81, 79 - 241) while junior Alexandria Andersen tied for 47th (83, 84, 80 - 247). Junior Jessica Green placed 59th (85, 84, 84 - 253) to round out the Dolphin finishers. The Dolphins return to action in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships on April 7-9 in Johnson City, Tenn.
