Softball falls to Central Florida
March 19, 2008 ORLANDO, Fla. - The JU softball team fell to Central Florida, 9-1, on Wednesday in Orlando, Fla. Senior designated player Patricia Melo, batting leadoff for the first time this season, led the game off with a triple and scored the Dolphins' only run following a wild pitch. The Dolphins (13-22) held the lead until the fourth inning, when two Knights hits by pitcher Allison Kime and Cat Snapp combined with two defensive errors gave Central Florida (21-14) the 2-1 lead. The Knights scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game. Senior pitcher Shannon Jensen (6-8) took the loss for the Dolphins, giving up eight runs (two earned) while striking out one in four innings. Kime (11-7) was the story for the Knights, striking out 10 in five innings while giving up one run. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs and two RBI. The Dolphins will be back in Atlantic Sun Conference action on Friday, hosting Belmont at 5 and 7 p.m. at the JU Softball Complex. |
